This was an especially fun one to write. 2017 felt like a hallmark year for storytelling in games and I had a great time highlighting some of my personal favorites. Titles like Nier: Automata, Yakuza 0, Wolfenstein II, Doki Doki Literature Club, and Night in the Woods offered a diverse medley of ideas delivered in vastly different presentations. Automata in particular completely blew my away, with Taro and his team crafting a singular piece of theme-centric narrative that fully took advantage of interactive media’s unique advantages as a story telling medium. Check out my full post, in which I go over each of the previously mentioned games in detail over at GameRVW.
