I was lucky enough to get some hands-on time with Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night at PAX East, one of the most anticipated upcoming indie releases. While Ritual of the Night‘s nature as a spiritual successor to Igarashi’s Castlevanias is quite a hefty burden, Bloodstained definitely has the potential to live up to that legacy. Admittedly, the single most important aspect of just about any Metroidvania is its world design, something that is very hard to diagnose from a twenty-minute demo. But overall I would say that the game seems quite promising considering some of the lukewarm responses to its long public development cycle.
