Why Sekiro’s Parry Mechanic Is A Perfect Fit For A FromSoftware Game

I have a deep affinity for the works of FromSoftware. Not only do their games feature some of the most enchanting and haunting worlds in the medium, but they also consistently showcase a mastery of environmental storytelling and worldbuilding. Their games also happen to be very, very hard, but in a way that inspires mastery as opposed to directly causing frustration. Their latest title marries the studio’s affinity for making difficult titles with a fighting game mechanic that intrinsically requires mastery, that being parrying.

You can check out my full rationale for why Sekiro’s parry mechanic perfectly fits with the principles if FromSoft’s titles over at GameRVW.

  1. don’t you mean “deflecting”? 😀 I always end up saying parry anyway. personally absolutely love the game, but am not nearly good enough in that genre to play it through. I’ve had it installed for like 3 or 4 months now and still have barely 1/4th of the game played. I really enjoyed your blog and felt like leaving a comment. If you have any kind of pointers for my gameplay and how I could improve, let me hear it. here is an example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YiVDwusj_bw

Cheers and have a nice day!
